BLOG review for Brianna

I really enjoyed when you talk about Dr.Ray’s video.  I totally agreed that the video is “lacked non-verbal representations”.  Another thing I like is the video you made. According to learning principles, the video did a good job with primacy because it  shows the processes step by step in clear and organized way.

I wonder if explain a bit more about how did you broke the Interactivity Principle would be more interesting for readers.

BLOG review for Adam

I really enjoyed that you talked about combination of pictures and words. As to my option, this is one of the most important factor to a good presentation. Moreover, I totally agree that split attention principle and the Signaling principle are important for presentations.

I wonder if talking a little bit more about “an example of a multimedia learning principle you have broken in the past” and how to prevent it happen again will be more beneficial  to readers.  Also I wonder if adding more explanations about why these principle matters to presentation will be more easier for readers to understand.

After complete this week’s topic, I realized there are both pros and cons about the video I made.

Pros:

  • Easy if use: The video is easy to use. The questions are clear and simple.
  • Interactions:  The multiple interactions between learners – learning materials and learners – teacher.

Cons:

  • Teaching functions: Lack of text.
  • Students: Assumed students have same level of skills. Did not provide explanation for students.

I choose to use SECTION framework because I feel SECTION are more specific about evaluating a learning tool. Also it is easier to understand.

As Dr.Ray mentioned from the beginning of the video, pictures/graphs are essential components for learning. A combination of words and graphs maximizes our learning ability. However, in the video there are only few pictures so I believe this is where Dr.Ray broke the rule.

Personally, I broke many rules in my past presentations. For instance, split attention principle is the one I broke most. In previous presentations, I always have related pictures which is good. However, I always put text beside the pictures instead of words.

In this class I hope to get a better understanding of how to effectively utilize the available interactive platforms to increase my knowledge on various important education paths that I will take after this class. This is to mean that I will really like to maximize the output that interactive multimedia digital technology which is currently highly available in the Web 2.0 era.

The use of a web-based game can be an example of interactive learning since the game had the same dynamics of the actual progression of a pandemic. Concepts like disease spread to become a pandemic and the importance of vaccination. Since the boy was fully engaged it was an effective learning tool which provided important information on pandemic (Rich, 2021).

I have an experience of learning through a multimedia learning tool through an app called Grasshopper which uses various engaging games to teach coding. It made an impact on me since I was able to understand complicated concepts of coding.

I have had a great experience of non-digital multimedia experience through a study through an encyclopaedia on the Animals. It was a huge book with numerous instructional pictorial help on how to identify different animals, it was such a positive experience since I got to learn various concepts in zoology.

In the past I have been using infographics to ensure that my videos are engaging and impactful. This was in order to present my work in a presentable manner and engage the audience in the content I was presenting.

The dual coding theory postulates that human brain receive and decode information in two senses, visual and verbal. Therefore when making a PowerPoint presentation it is quite important to not only include the textual content, but to reinforce the presentation with visual presentations like infographics. This will be to help my verbal contribution when I present these PowerPoint presentation and also engage the audience by using “I” “you” in order for them to feel involved.

It is quite important to understand the concept of flow in order to properly empower people in the creative process and engage in deep and meaningful work. Understanding flow theory can help trigger the audience participation and engagement in the online content (“Flow (CsĂkszentmihályi) – Learning Theories”, 2021).

Understanding theories is an important part of understanding how the human brain works in order to properly utilize multimedia tools in a way that will be efficiently comprehended.

Hypothesis.is is a very interactive multimedia tool available for presenting learning portfolio and also present educational elements in an engaging model. The use of hypothesis.is can present some drawbacks which majorly relates to the fact that physical aspect of learner-tutor is absent.

Today’s videos were very enlightening I got to understand how to utilize theories on human brain and psychology to engage people in an online environment in a ways I have never known before. The practicality of the theory was an interesting part of the learning process I learnt to practice passive theoretical contracts.
